A clear and supported pathway from Band 2 to Registered Nurse
At DHU Healthcare, we’re committed to developing talent from within, and that starts with our Health Care Assistants. If you’re passionate about care and want to progress in your clinical career, our structured apprenticeship pathway could be the perfect opportunity for you.
All new Healthcare Assistants begin with a comprehensive training package, including the Care Certificate and role-specific competencies to give you a strong foundation in patient care.
Once established in your role, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for the Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree, a fully funded, two-year apprenticeship delivered in partnership with the University of Derby.
You’ll continue to earn your full HCA salary while you study, with no cost to you, and upon completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for Band 4 roles across DHU.

The final step is the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship, which is another two-year, fully funded course that allows you to become a Band 5 Registered Nurse while continuing to earn your HCA wage. Like the earlier stages, this programme is fully supported and comes at no financial cost to you.
This career pathway reflects DHU’s commitment to growing our workforce, investing in your future, and opening doors to meaningful clinical careers. Whether you’re just starting or ready to take your next step, we’ll support you every step of the way.
